Saturday night 8 Ball Aitken rocked the Boogie Shack in Toowoomba. Sad night because this was the last ever gig at the Boogie Shack. There’s a big sale of all the memorabillia at the Boogie Shack next weekend. I photographed the night and made a slide show with 8 Ball’s goodtime music from his new album Tamworth Tapes. The Spirit of the Country concert in Toowoomba attracted 20,000 people.
Sporadic rains throughout the day didn’t keep people away. The show went on as a stellar list of country artists soldiered on to a packed audience.
The concert was hosted by radio and television personality RAY HADLEY and featured JOHN WILLIAMSON, KASEY CHAMBERS, LEE KERNAGHAN, TROY CASSAR-DALEY, GRAEME CONNORS, JAMES BLUNDELL, BECCY COLE, ADAM HARVEY, GINA JEFFREYS, SHANE NICHOLSON, BILL CHAMBERS, BRENDON WALMSLEY, McALISTER KEMP and CATHERINE BRITT. The final delivery was a spectacular fireworks display to signify the conclusion of the event.
PRINCE WILLIAM called into the concert and gave the royal wave from a balcony after meeting with heavily impacted victims and SES workers spending time to personally chat with them. TROY CASSAR-DALEY presented the Prince with an Akubra Hat. Continue reading “Rains didn’t dampen the Spirit of the Country Concert, Toowoomba”
In case you haven’t heard yet, my new exhibition has opened at the Toowoomba Regional Art Gallery. You can see some of the shots below.
The exhibition is called The Last Show and Re-shoot. The Last Show is a collection of photographs I took at the Toowoomba Show over 25 years ago. The 1985 Toowoomba Show was the last one at the old showgrounds. In recent years I’ve returned to photograph the Toowoomba Show at its new location to portray how it looks all these years later.
I have lived with the images from The Last Show for more than 25 years and they still speak to me. They evoke a real sense of being there. Matching them up with images I took at the 2010 Toowoomba Show contrasts the changes that have occurred over that time.
The real world fascinates me and I never felt the need to embellish what I see around me. Remarkably some of the images show great change while other things don’t seem to have changed at all.
ABC reporters Andrew Forster and David Iliffe interviewed me and posted a story online which includes some pics from the show, as well as an audio interview. Continue reading “The Last Show and Re-shoot exhibition featured on ABC News”
