Katrina’s first visit  to Tamworth

“I was about 14 years old and had the opportunity of performing with a local band at the old RSL. That night Kasey Chambers and Troy Cesar Daley were playing in the park for free but being committed to taking every opportunity to sing I missed out on their show.”

“I sat in the dressing room for what felt like hours till it was my turn to get up and perform. The band introduced me “Here is 14 year old Katrina Burgoyne”. I was tuned up, pumped up and ready to go out on stage but then the security came running over and said, “she can’t play here she’s underage”.

The hard working Davidson Brothers hit Tamworth

The Davidson Brothers seem to have been around for a long time. Brothers Hamish and Lachlan are amongst the hardest working musicians on the Australian music scene. They’ll certainly have some calluses after their gruelling Tamworth gig schedule.

The Davidson Brothers seem to have been around for a long time. Brothers Hamish and Lachlan are amongst the hardest working musicians on the Australian music scene. Their efforts paid off when they won Golden Guitars in 2009 & 2010 and Group of the Year at the Australian Independent Country Music Awards in 2010.

I’m a fan and I love these guys. Australian bluegrass pioneer Trevor Warner is a good judge of talent and he loves them too. “The Davidson’s are nothing short of sensational and are taking the Australian country music scene by storm,” according to Trevor.

I caught up with Hamish earlier in the week while he was packing for Tamworth. Continue reading “The hard working Davidson Brothers hit Tamworth”

Neville Anderson is back in Tamworth

Neville Anderson is a fine singer. I almost said a ‘a fine young singer’. He probably was young first time I saw him at Tamworth back all those years. It’s 2011 and Neville is back, older and wiser, in Tamworth this year. – John Elliott

“My first visit to the Tamworth Country Music Festival was for two days in 1982. I sang in the Coca Cola Talent Quest at the back of the Loco and the backing band included a couple of young Mc Cormack brothers. Jan Kelly and the Kelly Gang played that night. We also saw Jean Stafford and Roger Knox at the RSL,” said Neville. Continue reading “Neville Anderson is back in Tamworth”

Keeping it real with Dean Perrett

Dean Perrett is a traditional Australian country artist whose music is totally authentic and genuine. He comes from the land and knows first hand the joys and struggles that go hand in hand with rural life. His songwriting in this respect is never a stab in the dark!

Michael Fix’s 1975 Tamworth Festival connection

Legendary guitar picker Michael Fix was at the very first Tamworth. “The first time I experienced the Tamworth CM festival was in 1975, and that was also my first exposure to country music. Armed with my battered acoustic guitar, I was holidaying with my parents at Lake Keepit (an hour from Tamworth), a popular summer camping spot.” Fast forward to 2011 and Michael is one of the hottest pickers in the land.
