Photography Workshop at the Bunya Mountains, Friday 13 to Sunday 15 May 2011

I’ve dreamed of running a photography workshop at the beautiful Bunya Mountains ever since I first visited in the mid 1970s.

I come from Blackall in central western Queensland where the country is a very flat, not many trees and the country is brown most of the time. The Bunya Mountains on the other hand have real mountains, the Bunya Pines reach to the sky; the country is so green it burns your eyes. It all seemed very exotic to me back then and still does today. After the massive summer rains the sub tropical Bunya Mountain rainforest is lush, a photographer’s paradise. Guest artists included Ted Egan, McAlister Kemp, The Bobkatz, Amber Lawrence, 8 Ball Aitken, Kaylee Bell, Graham Rodger, Ernie Constance and Anne Kirkpatrick with a tribute to Joy McKean.

Doug Bruce & The Tailgaters – Tamworth bound for their no charge, no bull shows

One time Texan Doug Bruce now calls Bendigo home. The former drummer hasn’t looked back since he stepped up to the mic to front his band The Tailgaters. They created quite a buzz at the Festival last year and are set to blow them away again this year with their full-on, no-excuses country shows at The Central Hotel and Fitzroy Tavern. With songs from Doug’s highly acclaimed new album, A Good Place, and a number of catchy new covers added to the set list, these shows will not disappoint.

“We’ve changed up the show quite a bit since last year so the punters can look forward to something new. But one thing hasn’t changed – we still, and always will, play real country music, with no excuses!” says front man, Doug Bruce.

The Tamworth Festival means different things to different people. Nia Robertson is a first time visitor – she sends us a message while packing for her first ever visit and will do reports later in the festival. Janine Le Clair has visited the Festival several times in the past but won’t be there this year.
