TIM DALEY has a dream job – he’s the boss of Country Music Channel and a regular Tamworth Festival party animal. Tim’s first Tamworth visit was 1998 with a bunch of mates. “We camped in a van down by the river. Had a blast.”
“Tamworth is a good fun regional music festival. The CMA Music Festival each June in Nashville is the benchmark for entertainment, promotion, marketing sponsorship and television,” said Tim.
“The best gig I’ve seen in Tamworth is probably the Annual Adam Brand birthday bash*. Terri Clark was good quite a few years ago now. The Tribute to Slim 5 or 6 years ago was great.”
Tim told me it gets a little scary during the festival. “I remember being served by temporary staff with little training at cafes and restaurants in Peel St. I still have a bad memory of a shocking Caesar salad that was drenched in dressing. I also remember the time my in laws had reservations at a local hotel, only to be told when they arrived that someone had decided to stay an extra night and thus they had no rooms.”
The good stuff about Tamworth Festival “I love the summer camp vibe, the ability to see many gigs, catching up with friends and colleagues and the general good times.”
“I dislike how Tamworth is seen to represent country music in mainstream media. I also dislike the dishonesty involved in calling Tamworth the “Capital” of country music year round when it really only applies for about 10 days per year. Country Music is much bigger and better than Tamworth. Comparing Tamworth to Nashville is farcical. Having said that, I believe a strong Tamworth festival is something to strive for and can only benefit the genre.”
