I had a great bunch of participants at my recent Augathella photography workshop. People traveled from far and wide to come to the workshop. We lucked onto a weekend with lots of stuff happening in Augathella.

The Anglican Bishop was visiting and agreed to drop in to model for the class. The Endeavour Rally was passing through and there was a rugby league game at the showgrounds so we had plenty to photograph. The town also looked a picture after the recent rains.

I was thrilled to meet Keith Clarke and his daughter Jane who attended the workshop. Keith is the father of Terri Clarke who I photographed back in 2004 and included in my 1000 Mile Stare Exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra. Terri is married and in her twenties now. I photographed Jane in a similar setting to Terri – they both wore the same jacket in the photos, one of their dad’s work jackets.

We had twenty-five mad keen photographers turn up for our three day workshop at the Bunya Mountains recently. Sue Unwin and her team at the Bunya Conference Centre spoiled us with great hospitality and food. The weather was perfect and the photographers made good use of the fascinating photo opportunities at our doorstep.

I’m planning another workshop at the Bunyas later in the year.

The Toowoomba based participants have formed an informal group and plan to get together and swap stories, images and tips on the first Sunday of the month. We had our first get together at Toowoomba’s Japanese Gardens on Sunday.

Bunya Mountains Workshop Group 2011

I’ve dreamed of running a photography workshop at the beautiful Bunya Mountains ever since I first visited in the mid 1970s.

I come from Blackall in central western Queensland where the country is a very flat, not many trees and the country is brown most of the time. The Bunya Mountains on the other hand have real mountains, the Bunya Pines reach to the sky; the country is so green it burns your eyes. It all seemed very exotic to me back then and still does today. After the massive summer rains the sub tropical Bunya Mountain rainforest is lush, a photographer’s paradise. Continue reading »

Keen photographers going to this year’s Tamworth Country Music Festival must not miss my photography workshop.

The four-hour daytime workshops will be fun, informative and hands on.

The workshop will involve practical information and tips for photographers of all skill levels, followed by the chance for participants to use what they have learned and take their own photographs. Participants get to photograph a real country star!

Attendees will learn photography techniques that they can put to use photographing concerts they attend in Tamworth and family and friends.

All you need to bring is your camera and a willingness to learn and have fun. Light refreshments will be provided.

I will share my knowledge and experience gained over a lifetime of working as a freelance photographer in the music industry. I’ve shot 20 Slim Dusty album covers and written definitive books on Australian country music.

The workshop is limited to 15 participants so register today to reserve your place. Pay securely and with confidence using Visa, Mastercard or Paypal.

The workshop is being held on Saturday 22 January (please note this new time – the workshop was originally advertised for the previous weekend, but will now be held on Saturday 22 January).
